Why support Care Net Pregnancy Resource Centers????

 

BECAUSE…


  • Approximately 2,000 abortions were performed in Prince William and Fauquier counties during 2008.
  • 1 in 4 teenagers between the ages of 17 and 24 have a sexually transmitted disease.
  • Over 1/3 of all U.S. children are now born out of wedlock.
  • The majority of Virginia teenage pregnancies are age 18-19.
  • A recent survey in Central Virginia revealed that by 10th grade, 40% of girls and 43% of boys had experienced sexual intercourse. By 12th grade the proportion rose to 68%.
  • 80 percent of unmarried teen mothers end up on welfare.
  • Only one-third of teenage mothers complete high school and receive their diplomas
  • The daughters of teen mothers are 22 percent more likely than their peers to become teen mothers.
  • Sons of teenaged mothers have a 13 percent greater chance of ending up in prison as compared to their peers.

  • 40% lower rate of school expulsion
  • 50% lower rate of high school dropout
  • 70% increase in college attendance
  • 66% increase in college graduation

Here are some encouraging stats:


  • Currently, over 53% of teens claim to be abstinent and want a message of abstinence taught in schools.
  • Over 2/3 of sexually active teens polled regretted their decision and wished that they had waited.
  • The most influential person in a teen’s life is their parent.
